The Daughters of Mokanna (Caldron) was formed on June 5, 1919 by some of the wives of the Prophets of the Grotto with the desire to be of assistance to the Prophets. Josephine Mace of Rock Island, Illinois, was the organizer. Thus the Caldron in Rock Island became Number 1. The Supreme Caldron meets annually in September. The purpose of the organization is, like the Grotto and Shine, social and Philanthropic. Daughters of Mokanna philanthropic is focused on fund raising and charitable contributions to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation. The Enchanted Lantern program was adopted in 1959 whereby purchasing Lanterns through the Supreme Council M.O.V. P. E. R. Humanitarian Foundation, for $50.00 Through the Caldron, entitles its members to also wear an Enchanted Lantern. Our Aim is to assist and co-operate with the Prophets of the Grotto. To bring into closer fellowship their families, to aid and comfort each other, to give a ceremonial that teaches lessons of truth, integrity and principle and some innocent fun and light entertainment that will make us forget our every day troubles.

Each local chapter of the Order, called a Caldron, takes on the name of the Grotto for a given city. Members wear a blue fez with a red tassel vs. the black fez and red of the Grotto. The leader of the local body or jurisdiction called “The Mighty Chosen One" wears a red fez with a gold tassel.

Membership is limited to adult wives, daughters, granddaughters of a Master Mason. One seeking admission must request a petition form from a member of the Caldron they wish to join. Then recommended by two members, and passed by unanimous ballot.
