PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Grand Monarch Shuards Sutherland
The 2010 Supreme Council Session in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
is now a happy memory. Although my work prevented Lynn and me from attending as we had planned, the reports I am hearing indicate
that it was a very enjoyable convention. A tip of the hat to Lady Bette Chapman for coordinating a winning hospitality room
and to Zuleika Grotto on their success in the several Color Guard competitions. On behalf of the Empire State Grotto Assouciation,
I want to thank Past Grand Monarch Pierre Shawver and Lady Barbra for their enthusiastic support and friendship during their
successful year at the helm of the Supreme Council-The Grottoes of North America. I would also like to congratulate Grand
Monarch Shuards Sutherland on becoming our Grand Monarch. I pledge the full support of the ESGA to you and Lady Susan in all
of your programs and endeavors.
The
next big event scheduled for the ESGA is the Fall Convention in Lake George, New York, from September 16-19, 2010. I direct
your attention to the forms that are included with this edition for all of the exciting details. I cannot thank PM Dan Kelly
and Lady Shirley for everything they have done to make sure we will all have a wonderful weekend full of novel social events
and old-fashioned good fellowship. Be mindful of the deadline for making room reservations at the Fort William Henry Hotel.
The rooms are limited and, when they are gone, you will be staying at another hotel in the vicinity of Lake George Village.
The theme for the Friday Gala will be 1969 “Summer of Love.” Dig out your pink sunglasses and bell- bottomed pants.
As I said in the last edition, we will have a groovy time tripping down memory lane to the tunes of the Grateful Dead.
I once again direct your attention to the information contained herein that relates to the issue of the merger. The
Pennsylvania Grotto Association is still interested in exploring a possible consolidation. The terms that have been proposed
are favorable to our association and should be given serious consideration. Please let us know your thoughts on this important
issue. The future of your ESGA is in your hands. Plan to attend the Fall Convention to cast your vote or let Bob Chapman (chapmanb1@roadrunner.com) or your Monarch or Secretary know your thoughts.
Finally, Lalla Rookh Grotto has been kind enough to include the Empire Stater in its entirety on their web site (www.lallarookhgrotto.com). I believe this is an exceptional way for the news of our Association to reach as many Prophets
as possible. I encourage any other Grotto that has a web site to also include the ESGA newsletter or at least to have the
Secretary of every Member Grotto email the Empire Stater to all members who have email addresses.
Thank you for your support and friendship. Enjoy the summer months. I look forward to seeing all of you in Lake George.
Fraternally,
John W. Scott, PM
ESGA President

EMPIRE STATE GROTTO ASSOCIATION
Fall Meeting
September 16–19, 2010
To the Prophets and Grottoes:
Kaa Rheu Vahn Grotto is pleased to welcome the Prophets and Ladies of
the Empire State Grotto Association to the 84th Annual Fall Meeting. We would like to share some information with you.
On Friday, we will take a 1½ hour luncheon cruise
on the Adirondac on beautiful Lake George. You can walk down from the hotel or drive to their parking
lot. The Necrology Service will take place on this cruise. Please be sure your Grotto submits the names to President John
Scott by August 30.
The Fort William
Henry Museum is adjacent to the Hotel and we have made arrangements for the group to tour at any time for $7. Just tell them
you are with the New York State Grotto Association. (Wrong title, but that is how the reservations were made. Sorry!)
As noted on the reservation form, the hotel will be
full. I strongly urge you to make your reservations now. If you do miss the deadline or reservations are full, please call
me for other information about other nearby hotels.
I thank you for your support. Shirley and I look forward to greeting you in the Long Lake hospitality
room.
Fraternally,
Dan Kelly, Convention Chair
